Before I share my goals and plans for February I need to take a moment to reflect back on January and I highly recommend you do the same. So often we’re so eager to move on to the next goal or the next task that we don’t take the time to give ourselves credit for the things we’ve already done.

Aside from my website crashing at the end of the month (Don’t ask. I still have PTSD over this), January was pretty good to me and was a great way to start off 2019.

I got to finally announce that I’m now writing a monthly column for the Culture department of Birmingham Magazine. (You can read January’s essay here.)

I hosted a virtual summit with an amazing group of women. (Recordings of the sessions along with a value-packed workbook will be available later this month.)

I crossed something off my freelance writing bucket list – seeing my byline in Good Grit magazine. How awesome it felt to listen to music by Lecrae while reading a story about Lecrae that I wrote!

Also this month I was asked to speak at a summer writing conference. Not only is this a paid speaking engagement but the  conference is paying for my travel and meals, too.

To be honest, though, the best part of my month had little to do with writing. This month I decided to go all in with my efforts to grow closer to God through prayer, study of the Bible, and regular church attendance. I participated in my church’s annual 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting and gave up alcohol, sweets, potato chips and TV for three weeks. While I missed sitting on the sofa snacking on Lay’s chips while binge-watching reruns of Criminal Minds, not doing so allowed me to spend more time writing in my prayer journal and more time reading — not to mention it helped me lose 8 pounds, too!

I read two books in January – Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis and My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite.  And I spent more quality time with my husband and my friends.

What a month!

Now February is here and I’m ready to make this month even better – especially since it’s my birthday month!
