Whether you’re looking for a gift for a woman writer in your life or for yourself, the See Jane Write Gift Guide has you covered.

I must confess, however, that this gift guide is stacked with items that I either already own or plan to add to my holiday wish list. But that just means that even though this post includes a few affiliate links and I will get a commission if you make a purchase from those links, every opinion you read here is all mine.

Journal and Jot It Down

Two things I can never have enough of – journals and Post-it notes!

I use Post-it notes not only to jot down important reminders but also to draft outlines for my articles. That’s why I’m hoping Santa will bring me this Post-it gift set.

If you want to go beyond a blank journal this season, try the Self-Care Check-In and the Same Page Journal.

Self-Care Check-In is a guided journal by GG Renee Hill packed with research-based techniques to help readers manage stress, nurture their values and goals, and take steps toward concrete change. It’s designed to help you build healthy habits and finally learn to devote time to yourself. And GG Renee has said she created this book for ambitious women.

Same Page Journal is a couples journal designed by husband and wife team Alex and Caitlin Godwin to help couples practice healthy and intentional communication.

Bags for Books, Journals, and Other Things Writers Carry Around

I’ve been called “bag lady” a time or two hundred in my life. What can I say, I love a good tote!

And if you do, too, check out Consuela. This unique fashion and lifestyle brand is all about celebrating women. In fact, the company has a program called “It’s Not About the Bag” that honors women who are impacting their community through service, strength, kindness, tenacity, and love.

Without me even knowing, a member of the See Jane Write Facebook community nominated me for this award earlier this year and I won! I was selected as a “Viva Babe” and received a fabulous bag and other accessories from Consuela, along with a Certificate of Awesomeness!

I love the bag that was picked out for me. But now I also want this one, this one, and this one, too.

Because leggings are pants

This work from home life many of us are living these days has me wearing leggings all day every day – even when I leave the house. My most comfy leggings are from Target. But my top picks for long-lasting, high-quality leggings are Fabletics and Constantly Varied Gear.

And I’m adding leggings from Not Only Pants to my holiday wish list. I met the founder of No Only Pants last year at a retreat for female entrepreneurs. Monica has an amazing story and she’s on a mission to help us women change the way we feel about our bodies so that we learn to love them — stretch marks, dimples, cellulitis, excess fat, scars and all.

Because she is a masterpiece – and so are you

As a writer, sometimes I find myself as inspired by visual art as I am by the literary arts.

Alice Walker print by Zoe Sinclair

Last month I stumbled upon prints by London-based artist Zoe Sinclair through her Frequency of Love Etsy shop and I’ve been sending dollars upon dollars across the pond ever since. I’ve been buying her prints as birthday gifts for my best gal pals and I soon plan to finally buy one for myself. Her prints include images of legendary women writers like Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Octavia Butler, and Alice Walker.

Angela Davis print by Lo Harris

Another artist I’m excited to support this holiday season is Lauren “Lo” Harris of Lo Harris Art. Lauren was one of the first students I taught when I was a teacher at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Back then I knew her as a phenomenal writer but turns out she’s an amazingly talented artist, too!

Her art has caught the attention of The Birmingham Times, The Chicago Tribune and even landed her the opportunity to design Ellen DeGeneres’ fall 2020 Be Kind subscription box.

But perhaps the greatest gift you could give yourself this year is the realization that you are a work of art. Birmingham-based writer and artist Abbey Crain can help you do just that. She paints commissioned nudes of women to help them celebrate their bodies.

No matter what you buy for yourself or others this holiday season, I hope you remember that YOU ARE THE GIFT.
