For me, this year’s #bloglikecrazy challenge has been all about returning to the good old days of blogging when we bloggers blogged not for page views or for profit but simply because we couldn’t help ourselves. We wanted to create content and build community and that was enough. One of my favorite things from old-school blogging is the “Currently” feature, which you can find on many personal blogs.
Kristin Tweedale of the feminist scrapbooking blog Rukristin.com created the Currently List Journaling Challenge. The goal of the Currently List Journaling Challenge is to spend five minutes once a week telling your “right-now” story. Kristin even sells Currently journaling cards, stamps, and post-it pads to make the challenge easier and more fun.
So, today I’m sharing with you what I’m currently watching, reading, listening to, making, feeling, planning, and loving.
Watching: #AllTheThings. First of all, I’m completely obsessed with Red Table Talk. Jada Pinkett Smith has created something life-changing with this Facebook Watch show that delves into topics ranging from marriage and motherhood to friendship and female health. Also, I have a show to watch nearly every day of the week. On Sundays, I’m watching The Walking Dead. On Mondays, I try to catch a rerun of Criminal Minds. Tuesdays are for The Gifted. Wednesdays are all about Greenleaf. Thursdays I’m up late watching Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder. I have nearly an entire season of Flash, Arrow, Black Lightning, and Total Divas saved on my DVR and let’s not even start with all the Netflix shows (such as Iron Fist, Daredevil, and House of Cards) that I need to watch.
Reading: The Well-Read Black Girl anthology is filling my life with black girl magic right now. Here’s what else I plan to read this month.
Listening: I’m listening to my #bloglikecrazy playlist, of course!
Making: Money moves! I’m just playing. Sort of. I’m not over here bathing in gold like Scrooge McDuck, but I’ve picked up so many new paid freelance gigs this year that I’m out here like, “I got 99 problems but a pitch ain’t one!”
Feeling: Hopeful. To be honest, I started this season, and even this month, in a funk. Actually, it was more than a funk. I felt downright despondent and was wondering if anything in my life had any point at all. But after some soul searching I realized I felt this way because I had given up on a dream of mine (one I have yet to share on this blog). But I’ve regained my faith in myself and I’m holding on to this quote: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
Planning: 2019. I’ve already started making a list of writing, blogging, and business goals for next year, but I’m doing my best to keep this list short because I have a bad habit of doing the most and being too extra, as my students would say. I’m also making a list of all the fun things I want to do next year but I’m trying to make this list as long as I am tall. There are trips I want to take, races I want to run, restaurants I want to try and festivals I want to attend. “Living the dream in 2019” will be my mantra!
Loving: Blogging! I can’t believe it happened so fast, but #bloglikecrazy has already helped me fall in love with blogging again. I’ve enjoyed writing every post I’ve published and replying to blog comments has been such a joy!
What are you currently into?
Currently –
Watching: Glee
Reading :Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult
Listening: Nichole Nordeman (because I’m seeing her tonight)
Making: Lots of lists, so this fits right in
Feeling: Nervous
Planning: The Holidays (Have you seen the So True Y’all video about this? How do they know my life?)
Loving: Cleaning out
I’m so jealous that you’re going to see Nichole Nordeman!
I love “currently” blog posts! In fact, you’ve inspired me to write one soon, too. I also love how upbeat and positive your outlook seems. You’re a rockstar, and you make me believe that I can meet goals AND have fun as well!
I’m so glad I’ve helped in some way. I definitely think we can meet our goals and live our lives!
