When you’re thinking of the fashion capitals of the world, Birmingham, Alabama is probably not a city that comes to mind. But the founders of Magic City Fashion Week (set for October 24 – 28) are out to change that, and this is great news not just for local models and designers, but for local bloggers, too.

Creators Daniel Grier and Derek Matthews (the designers behind Splashed by DKG) see Magic City Fashion Week as an opportunity to cultivate, connect, and showcase Birmingham’s creative community including designers, beauty industry professionals, photographers, videographers, models, and bloggers.

“I want for Birmingham to be so much more than a footnote in the Civil Rights section of the U.S. biography,” Matthews says in a statement at MagicCityFashionWeek.com.

Proving their commitment to nurturing bloggers, last week Magic City Fashion Week organizers hosted Bloggers Night Out, a networking event that featured an intimate and candid conversation with professional lifestyle blogger Vic Styles.

Magic City Fashion Week, however, has another goal, a mission that moves beyond simply trying to get Birmingham recognized as a town of trendsetters. Magic City Fashion Week also seeks to promote inclusion by creating a fashion event that will embrace all people regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, size, religion, or socioeconomic status.

“Stigma is so last season,” Grier says in a statement for the website.

Magic City Fashion Week organizers have partnered with Birmingham AIDS Outreach for its inaugural multi-day event, which is set to take place during the week of the 76th Annual Magic City Classic.

Magic City Fashion Week and all the events leading up to it offer opportunities for bloggers to connect and collaborate with other creatives in the city and are sure to inspire plenty of content for blog posts, too.

Magic City Fashion Week organizers are currently seeking bloggers and writers to help cover these events. Applications close Tuesday, August 15 at 11:59 pm CST. Click here to apply today.
