Who says freedom isn’t free?

“Freedom is not something that anybody can be given; freedom is something people take and people are as free as they want to be.” James Baldwin radically made this declaration in 1960 at the third annual Esquire Magazine symposium, later to be included in his essay collection, Nobody Knows My Name.  Little did I know how this quote would resonate with me so succinctly on the day I unexpectedly walked away from a 21-year career.

Word for the Year 2023

What’s your word for the year 2023?

Choosing a word for the year is something I’ve done for over a decade now and it’s a practice I’ve passed on to the women of the See Jane Write Community too.

I believe everyone — especially women writers — should choose a word to serve as their theme for the year.

23 Questions for 2023

A new year is almost here and while I plan to spend much of these final weeks of 2022 relaxing and hanging out with friends and family. But the goal digger in me is also plotting plans for 2023. 

Near the end of the year, I always take time to ask myself a series of questions to help me set goals for the year to come.
