Kristin Farmer of Curly Contessa reminds us that our story is our superpower

Kristin Farmer, Founder of Curly Contessa

This post is sponsored by Curly Contessa. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“Write like a boss” is one of my many mantras. Simply put, it means that we writers must think – and act – like business owners if we want to ditch the starving artist cliché and be well-fed writers.

This is why for inspiration I often turn to female entrepreneurs, female entrepreneurs like Kristin Farmer.

Kristin is the artist and creative mastermind behind Curly Contessa, a home goods and giftware line that celebrates the beauty of Black women.

7 Things You Can Do Today to Manage Your Mindset

I have a confession. There was a time when I thought books, courses, and coaching about mindset was all mumbo jumbo. I’m a go-getter. I want tips on what to do, not how to think. It was all too woo-woo for me.

But back in 2014, I made the decision to start taking myself seriously as a businesswoman and that mindset shift changed everything. The next year See Jane Write grew exponentially and I was even selected by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of their Top 40 Under 40. Mindset made all the difference.

How to Hit the Reset Button on Your Email List

Confession: I haven’t sent a message to my main email list in nearly a month. Sure, I’ve emailed the members of the See Jane Write Collective regularly about all of the awesome virtual events we’ve had this month. But for my general email list — the See Jane Write Weekly — it’s been crickets.

This, however, was actually a planned sabbatical. I wanted to take this month to brainstorm new ideas for the See Jane Write Weekly and to brainstorm ways to grow my list.

I’ll be back in action in August. So, if you haven’t done so already, be sure to sign up for the See Jane Write Weekly so you won’t miss out on the content I have planned.

If you need to hit reset button on your own email list, here’s how.

Body Image Issues Are Bad for Business

On September 8-10, 2019 I had the opportunity to attend Inspired Vacay, a retreat hosted by and for the members of the Female Entrepreneur Association. This year’s Inspired Vacay was held in Palm Springs and I headed to sunny California with a few set intentions: 1) I wanted to talk to FEA founder Carrie Green about See Jane Write and get her advice on how to grow my membership program. 2) I wanted to develop a vision and plan for my business for 2020 and the rest of 2019. 3) I wanted to make a genuine, long-lasting connection with at least one other attendee. 4) I wanted to get photographed in my new swimsuit.

If you’re thinking that last item on my list has absolutely nothing to do with growing my business, think again.
