4 Things You Should Do This Month

December is the new January.

For a long time that was a motto of mine about the final month of the year. This mantra meant that in December I should start setting myself up for a successful new year.

But in 2020, December is the new January simply means I want to pretend this dumpster fire of a year is already over!

Regardless of your attitude about December, there are four things I think every writer should do this month.

3 Things I Learned This Month

My theme for July was RESET and I can confidently say I did exactly that. I reset my goals for the year and even my 40 Before 40 list. But that was just the beginning.

This month I hit the reset button on nearly every aspect of my life, including my writing and blogging life, and I learned 3 important lessons along the way.

My Theme for the Month and Why You Should Have One, Too

July is here which means we’re halfway through this dumpster fire of a year. Like the rest of the world, I’m dealing with the emotional stress of living in a society plagued by two pandemics – COVID-19 and racism. And on top of that, I’m battling breast cancer.

As much as I want to cancel 2020, I can’t. So, I must find a way to survive it and perhaps even thrive in it instead.

So, my theme for the month is RESET.

5 Things Women Writers Should Do This Month

August 1 always feels like the beginning of a new year to me. No, I don’t spend July 31 drinking champagne and counting down the seconds until midnight, but there’s something about August that feels like a clean slate. Most likely, I feel this way because I’m a teacher and August means the beginning of a new school year, but I use this month to start anew in all areas of life, not just my teaching career.

“All In August” is usually my motto for this month. August is the month that I decide to go “all in” with my goals. Think about what could happen in your life if you did the same.
