Stop being a writer who doesn’t write.

I first heard those words from blogger and journalist Alexis Barton in July 2014 at the first Bloganista Mini-Con, the annual summer blogging conference I organize and host through See Jane Write. Alexis, who blogs at Same Chic Different Day, was the morning keynote speaker at that year’s conference. Her words stuck with me. I’m still hearing them a year and a half later: Stop being a writer who doesn’t write.

Lately, I feel as if I’m failing to answer this call, failing to meet this charge. Lately, I feel as if I am a writer who doesn’t write.

How Blogging Can Boost Your Confidence

I believed the lie. I thought that the moment I turned 30 confidence would come upon me like a Puritan conversion. But 30 came and went I still found myself struggling with the same insecurities that plagued me in my 20s and even my teen years.

But today, less than one month away from my 35th birthday, I find myself more confident than I have ever been and more confident than I ever thought I’d be.

Javacia’s January Goals

2016 is here and if you’re anything like me you’ve been busy planning and goal setting for the year. But I don’t believe that setting yearly goals is enough, and neither is setting 90-day goals. I believe you also need what I call Momentum Moves.

Momentum Moves are monthly, weekly, and daily tasks you complete to create momentum and move closer to accomplishing your long-term goals. And this is why I not only set goals for the year but also for each month.

Write the Vision

Get your favorite notebook and your favorite pen (you know you have one) and set aside 30 minutes for free writing. Begin your writing with this: “It is November 23, 2020 and I am so proud of the life I have created.”

It was with a writing prompt much like this one that I began the process of writing a vision for my life and my work.
