Writing for Wellness

Many health care professionals, from medical doctors to psychotherapists, recommend writing as a way for patients to heal ailments of both mind and body. So, when I learned that See Jane Write Collective member Dr. Millie Jackson led “Writing for Wellness” workshops I was eager for her to host one for the Janes.

Member of the Month: Coretta Collins

Coretta Collins has always wanted to be a writer. But she’s also always wanted to work in healthcare. As she pursued a career as a nurse practitioner her passion for writing got pushed to the backburner.

But eventually, she realized she could bring her two loves together and she launched her blog Confessions of a Nurse Practitioner.

Juggling a blog with a demanding career in healthcare is no easy feat any time of any year, but with the world in the midst of a global health pandemic Coretta’s consistency with her blog makes her a superhero indeed. For this and more, Coretta is our Member of the Month for May 2020.

Read on to get to know more about Coretta and her blog.

Writing My Way Through Cancer

Things could be worse. I could have cancer.

That was always my go-to, my retort and my refrain when I got bad news. When I found out my boyfriend was cheating on me. When I found out I was broke and my checking account was overdrawn. Even when I found out I had lupus.

But on January 24, 2020, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I had no mantra to make me feel better.

How to Use Facebook Groups to Build Your Brand

Starting a Facebook group was one of the best decisions I made in my efforts to grow See Jane Write — both the blog and the business.

Since 2011, I’ve grown See Jane Write from a BlogSpot blog and small local women’s writing group into an award-winning website and profitable business with members and clients around the world. And one of the keys to my success was the See Jane Write Network Facebook group.

Member of the Month: Dr. Millie Jackson

To put it plainly, See Jane Write Collective member Dr. Millie Jackson is smart. Really smart. She has a Ph.D. in English as well as graduate degrees in storytelling, health education, and library and information science. She’s also a certified coach, yoga teacher, reiki master, and labyrinth facilitator.

Her resume alone is enough to make her Member of the Month, but what makes Millie such a great addition to the See Jane Write tribe is how she blends all of her knowledge together as she searches for ways to live life to the fullest and shares this journey through her writing.

For about 10 years she blogged at https://milliejackson.wordpress.com  about her health and wellness journey as a distance triathlete and then a yoga student and teacher. She’s in the process of launching a new site at http://www.millieljackson.com that will focus on writing, storytelling, and positive psychology coaching.

In the meantime, she’s busy leading workshops on writing for wellness. In late April she’s leading a virtual writing for wellness session exclusively for See Jane Write Collective members!

When See Jane Write hosted its first in-person meetup in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in summer of 2019, Millie was there and has been a loyal part of the group ever since.
