Sharing my debut essay collection Find Your Way Back with the world will definitely go down as one of the most joyous moments of my life.

Not only are folks buying the book but they’re reading it, too! (Don’t pretend you read every book you buy. I know I don’t!)

What has made me happiest is that several people have said my book makes them want to write. That’s exactly what I hoped it would do.

If you’re still not sure if Find Your Way Back is a good book to add to your TBR list, allow me to share 3 things you should know about my book.

My book wants to convince you that writing is a superpower.

Find Your Way Back is a collection of essays that demonstrate how I’ve used writing to navigate everything life has thrown my way – including cancer. That’s why the subtitle is “How to Write Your Way Through Anything.” I believe writing is a superpower. It can help us write our way through our worst nightmare and to the life of our dreams.

This isn’t just a book about cancer.

Even though my cancer diagnosis is the thread that ties the essays of this collection together, this isn’t just a book about cancer. My hope is that these essays will show you that you can use writing to cope with any adversity in your life. In the collection, you’ll find essays on issues of race, gender, and body image as well as pieces on marriage, family, and faith.  So, while I do think my book is a great gift for those going through cancer, I believe it can be helpful to anyone going through anything.

I wrote this book because I want you to write a book too.

I did write the book with an ideal reader in mind and that reader is a woman who wants to write but doesn’t because life keeps getting in the way. That’s why I included writing prompts throughout the book. I want you to read my story then put down the book and pick up a pen (or keyboard) and write your own story.

How to Buy the Book

If I’ve won you over and you think that Find Your Way Back should be added to your stack, you can purchase the paperback on Amazon. The eBook is also available for pre-order on Amazon. Signed paperbacks are available here.

This month, I’ll be hosting two events to celebrate the release of Find Your Way Back.

Join me via Zoom on Tuesday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m. CT for my virtual release party. I will be reading a few of my favorite essays from the collections and April Stearns of Wildfire Magazine will lead a live Q&A discussion about the book, writing life, cancer, and anything else you want to talk about.

You can RSVP here.

If you’re in Birmingham, come party with me on Friday, March 18 at Orchard House. I won’t be reading at this event so you can drop by anytime between 6 and 8 p.m. to get your book signed, grab some food, and mingle with Birmingham creatives.

You can RSVP here.

And on March 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. I’ll be at Thank You Books in Crestwood for a Meet the Author session. You can swing by, get your book signed, and chat with me a bit that afternoon.

I hope to see you at one, two, or all three events!
