I’ve been a fan of affirmations for years and I love crafting affirmations specifically for women who write and women who blog.
Affirmations are positive phrases or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts.
The notion of the power of positive thinking is as old as the Bible. But within the past few years, this idea has become more popular as reciting affirmations has become a trendy thing to do.
The Science Behind the Power of Affirmations
But does it work? Can reciting affirmations actually help you achieve your goals and change your life?
Yes!
And it’s not because of magic. There’s actually science behind the power of affirmations.
One of the key psychological theories behind positive affirmations is self-affirmation theory. Through self-affirmation we construct a narrative about ourselves, or self-identity. But it’s not a strict and rigid one. It’s one that allows us to be flexible and accept different roles. Therefore, we can adapt to different situations better and define success for ourselves in different ways, too.
Another piece of the puzzle is self-integrity, which we maintain by acting in ways that merit the praise of the positive statements you’re speaking over yourself. In other words, you’re not going to say “I am a creative and consistent blogger” in the mirror every day and then not update your blog for a month.
Affirmations work because they urge you to act accordingly!
If you’re in need of some positive thinking (and positive action) to keep you going after your goals, here’s my latest collection of affirmations for women who write and blog.
