girl-talk

If you’ve been following me and my blog for awhile it should come as no surprise that I watch Beyonce’s 2013 documentary Life is But a Dream at least once a year. And one of my favorite quotes from that documentary is about Beyonce’s ideas of sisterhood. She says: “I love my husband, but there’s nothing like a conversation with a woman that understands me.” She goes on to add, “I grow so much from those conversations. I need my sisters.”

Sisterhood is one of the things I value most in life. It drives so much of what I do as a blogger, writer, teacher, and entrepreneur.

Tonight I gathered with four of my fellow blogging babes — Chanda Temple of ChandaTempleWrites.com, Sherri Ross of YouGotRossed.com, Artney Walker of MyPrettyBrownFit.com and Jennifer King of MyStellarFashionandFitness.com — to recap our experience at the 8th annual Blogalicious conference. We shared our biggest takeaways, discussed how we plan to take our blogs to the next level, and bounced ideas off one another, too.

We discussed issues as heavy as politics, colorism, and dealing with grief and as frivolous Keeping Up with the Kardashians and somehow by the end of the night we’d all pulled out our makeup bags to show off our favorite lipsticks.

Of course, all of this happened over a table full of food. Chanda, always the hostess with the mostest, prepared a feast for us complete with tangy lemonade.

If you haven’t recently had a girls night in with women who understand you and your dreams, I urge you to schedule one soon. I see such meetings as sacred, as communion with fellow goddesses, because that’s exactly what these gatherings are.
