Talking About Money Makes Me Sick

tracie2
Tracie B. Threadford, My Money Makeup Artist

Talking about money makes me sick — literally. I once threw up before a trip to H&R Block to get my taxes done. (And I typically get a refund!) As an entrepreneur, I obviously have to deal with money a lot. I get heart palpitations and shortness of breath just thinking about doing the bookkeeping for my business.

When I was growing up my parents had very little money. We were no stranger to eviction notices or having the gas or electric services turned off. And money woes often led to heated disagreements in our household.

Today I am a proud homeowner and my bills are always paid on time, and yet I still don’t want to talk about money — EVER.

Celebrate Yourself at SOL Dance Experience

sol

What is SOL Dance Experience?

Finding the words to describe SOL Dance Experience is no easy task.

The SOL Dance Experience website simply states: “SOL Dance Experience is a LIGHTS OUT, free-form dance session for women of all fitness levels.”

And you could go to SOL Dance Experience to get in your exercise for the day. Dancing your heart out for a whole hour will certainly help you work up a sweat and burn off some calories. But to call SOL a fitness class just doesn’t seem sufficient.

You could go to SOL Dance Experience simply because you love to dance, but this isn’t the time to work on your technique or to show off your skills. You truly are in complete darkness, save the glow-in-the-dark tabs (or fireflies as the session leaders call them) that help you stay in your own area and keep you from bumping into other dancers.

The SOL mantra is “Find your light in the dark.”

Last night I went to SOL Dance Experience to celebrate my 35th birthday with a dozen members of See Jane Write. Using SOL Dance Experience as a birthday party isn’t necessarily a thing, but I certainly think it will become one after last night’s session.

Member of the Month: Brie Cash

brie cash 2

The See Jane Write member of the month is Brie Cash of the I Am Woman Network.

When I met Brie last year, I had no idea she was facing so many hardships because, quite frankly, she always looks fabulous.

But as the old saying goes, you can’t judge a book by its cover.

“I have spent the last year and a half in a nasty custody battle,” Brie shares. “Most of 2015 I was homeless going from friend to friend.”

But from these hardships was born an idea — the I Am Woman Network.

“I prayed for purpose and He gave me a vision that is leading to my purpose,” Brie says, explaining that the I Am Woman Network exists to “equip and empower women to live purposefully.”

A Look Back at 2015

Princess Jai 2

2015 owes me nothing.

I am truly overwhelmed by all the blessings God showered upon me this year.

This is not to say that 2015 was an easy year. It was not.

This spring I suffered several health issues that required so many doctor visits the receptionist at my doctor’s office joked about giving me a key to the place.

This summer the smile I wore at the Bloganista Mini-Con was a mask, hiding indescribable pain because the day before the conference someone I love dearly committed suicide.

And this fall I prepared to completely shut down See Jane Write because I had decided that the work was just too much.

But I changed my mind. And I changed my mind because of you. I changed my mind because I am committed to helping you become the author of your own life.

I’m not sharing these things because I want pity. I’m sharing because I want you to see that even when your world is falling apart you can still succeed in the end.

And I believe that joy is a choice. So as I look back at 2015, I choose not to dwell on adversity and trials. I choose to focus on accomplishments and triumphs.
