You Don’t Have to Write Alone: Why Writers Need a Writing Community

If you’re not making progress on your book, blog or other writing goals, a writing community might be the missing puzzle piece you need.

Writing is often a solitary activity – but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, I believe writers need other writers. Period. That’s the reason See Jane Write exists. Without a community to hold us accountable, work, family, and everyday life can easily push our goals to the back burner.

How to Write Consistently

If you’re struggling to write consistently, you may think this is a sign that you need to put your writing dreams on hold. But it’s not. Nor is it a sign that you’re lazy. Because you’re not! You just need to shift your attitude and change your approach.

Everything you want is on the other side of consistency.

This is the quote I’m repeating to myself again and again in this season.

More than a quote or affirmation, it’s beginning to feel like a prayer or incantation.

As I looked back on the year so far, I realized everything I’ve accomplished has come from consistency. And for every goal I’ve failed to realize, I can plainly see that my stumbling block was lack of consistency.

But consistency has a bit of a PR problem.

Your 4th Quarter Comeback: Journal Prompts for Your Fall Reset

My 4th Quarter Comeback Playbook. That’s what I call the goals and plans I drafted for the final three months of 2026.

I am a college football fan, and even though it stresses me out when my team isn’t moving the ball down the field like I want them to, I must admit that I love the thrill of a 4th quarter comeback. A few weeks ago, I realized I needed a 4th quarter comeback of my own.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve been blessed this year. I now have the job I’ve dreamed of since I was 15 years old. I had the chance to be in conversation with author Tayari Jones for her latest book tour. I’ve traveled and had lots of fun in my Magic City too. But between health issues, hard circumstances with my parents, and constantly feeling overwhelmed, this year has been hard and has left me feeling like I’m losing.

But am I?

What is your book about?

What is your book about?

This seems like a simple, easy-to-answer question. But those five words can often cause us writers to crash out!

Summing up your work in progress into just a couple of sentences can be daunting and leave you wondering whether you should just trash the whole project!

Mid-Year Check-In Journaling Prompts

It’s time for a mid-year check-in and, of course, I’m turning to journaling prompts to help.

I’ve said the words “Well, that wasn’t on my 2026 bingo card” so many times this year that it’s clear to me I need to start a new game. It’s clear that I need to revisit and revamp my goals and plans for the year.

That’s exactly what the women of the See Jane Write Collective and I did recently. We also got clear on the writing projects we’ll focus on in the third quarter of 2026. We call this our 90-Day Slay project. I will be working on the next draft of my devotional. Some members are working on book proposals. Others are focusing on building their platforms.

To determine our goals for the next 90 days and develop a plan to achieve them, we worked through a series of journaling prompts that I’m sharing below. And it’s not too late to join the Collective and work on your own 90-Day Slay project. Learn more about the Collective and join us today.
