Today, See Jane Write turns 15. Next year’s birthday— Jane’s super sweet 16 — will be a big one. (I’ve already put together a committee to plan the celebration.) But this year feels special too.

In the same year Jane has turned 15, I have realized a dream I first had at age 15 — the dream of becoming the editor of an established publication. (In case you missed it, I’m the interim editor of the Birmingham Times.)

I recently saw something on Instagram that said, “Midlife is just becoming who you were at 16 again, but loving her this time.” This perfectly describes how I feel right now.

But I’ve realized that just as my new editing job feels like a gift to my 15-year-old self, See Jane Write is also a gift to my younger self and a gift to your younger self, too.

Many women of See Jane Write are in midlife, and I hope you all are becoming and loving the girl you used to be. Most likely, if you’re reading this, that girl dreamed of being a writer. See Jane Write is here to help that dream come true. And that’s why I believe See Jane Write is a gift to your younger self.

The Future of See Jane Write

When news of my new job broke, everyone wanted to know what this meant for See Jane Write. The honest answer is — I don’t know. Some things may have to change. But one thing will never change: See Jane Write will always be about community.

Let me share a story from a See Jane Write Collective member that wonderfully illustrates why I created this organization 15 years ago.

If you want to be a part of this literary love fest, enrollment for the See Jane Write Collective is currently open. You can learn more and join here. We look forward to welcoming you into the crew!
