I have a confession. There was a time when I thought books, courses, and coaching about mindset was all mumbo jumbo. I’m a go-getter. I want tips on what to do, not how to think. It was all too woo-woo for me.
But back in 2014, I made the decision to start taking myself seriously as a businesswoman and that mindset shift changed everything. The next year See Jane Write grew exponentially and I was even selected by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of their Top 40 Under 40. Mindset made all the difference.

Last week certified coach Tasha M. Scott led a special workshop for the members of the See Jane Write Collective. My hope was that she’d show us how to manage our mindset and get out of our own way as we go after our goals.
She overdelivered!
If you’re a member of the Collective, you can find a recording of the workshop in our members-only resource library.
For those of you who aren’t members, I’m sharing my top takeaways and how I plan to apply them to my own life.
Here are 7 things you can do TODAY to help manage your mindset.
Get your attitude in check.
Stop complaining about EVERYTHING. Try to find something positive in every situation. Try to develop an attitude of gratitude. Keeping a daily gratitude journal can be a great way to do this.
Plan your priorities.
By using a planner like the Day Designer, you can set your top 3 priorities for the day and schedule when you’re going to make time to work on them.
Take care of yourself.
As you’re planning your priorities, be sure they include something for your health. Commit to moving your body every day. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish.

Think on it.
Tasha stressed the need to give yourself time and space to think and to process those thoughts. I find I do this best through journaling. Tasha says it’s important to quickly act on our thoughts as well. In my journaling practice, I make time to write out action plans as well.

Commit to commitment.
Every day we need to recommit to our commitments. Every day we need to declare that we will do what needs to be done to go after our goals. And Tasha says we need to accept that commitment will sometimes be a struggle.
“Anything worth having is worth fighting for,” Tasha says.
Know your values.
Make a list of your top 3 or 5 values. Each night evaluate your day in light of those values. Are you living out your values? If not, what can you do to change that?
Grow and glow.
Everybody wants the glow up but sometimes we first have to grow up.
Tasha says we should make it our goal to grow in some way every day.
One of my favorite quotes is “Do one thing every day that scares you.” This advice from Eleanor Roosevelt is one of my mantras. I believe following this can certainly help us grow.
