Pop culture and everyday life are great sources of inspiration for blog posts, articles, essays, and more. That’s why I love sharing with you what I’m currently watching, writing, reading, listening to, loving, feeling, and planning. Here’s the latest edition of Currently!
Writing: It’s #BlogLikeCrazy season, so I’m writing blog post after blog post after blog post. And I’m loving it. I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun with this challenge. I abandoned my editorial calendar after the first week and I don’t even care!
Reading: I have a horrible habit of starting a book then starting another before I can finish the first one. And that’s why I’m currently reading three different books — Girl Code by Cara Alwill Leyba, Girls Like Us by Randi Pink, and Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo. I’m going to visit my in-laws next month and since they live in an area where strong Wi-Fi and cell phone signals are as rare as freelancers getting paid on time, I always get a lot of reading done. I hope to finish all three of these books by the end of that trip.
Watching: Watchmen. I was late jumping on this bandwagon because I didn’t want to pick up any new television shows. But after watching one episode via HBO On Demand I was hooked. This show, that some would write off as nothing but a comic book show, cleverly tackles issues of race, relationships, family and so much more. And Regina King’s character Sister Night a.ka. Angela Abar is a complete badass!
Listening: Doja Cat’s new album Hot Pink is getting a lot of play these days. But lately, if you see me wearing earbuds it’s because I’m listening to a podcast. Living Over Existing, Side Hustle Pro, She Means Business and On Purpose with Alex Beadon are some of my current favorites.
Loving: Three-mile walks around my neighborhood. It’s almost December but here in the South, the weather is still mild enough to enjoy afternoon walks. Yes, these walks help me burn calories, but that’s not why I make them a part of my day. My afternoon walk is my time to listen to music or podcasts or call family or friends. It’s my time to think, to dream, to pray. It’s my time.
Feeling: Restless. My word for 2019 was CHANGE and I think I’ve lived up to that. By quitting my teaching job to become a full-time freelancer I definitely changed my life. But I’m ready for more. I’m ready for growth. I’m ready for 2020 to be epic.
Planning: 2020. Once I draft my five-year plan I need to figure out what I should do in year one of that plan to bring my dreams to fruition. I have so much I want to do next year— launch a podcast, publish a book, grow my audience. I also want to travel more, spend more time with my family and friends, and work on my health, fitness, and finances. I know I can do it all, but not all at once. So before New Year’s Eve rolls around, I have to decide what I’m going to do first.
