Hi, there! I’m the founder and editor of See Jane Write and I’m so glad you decided to stop by the website. My name is Javacia Harris Bowser, but when I attend networking events around Birmingham people often approach me and ask, “Are you See Jane Write?” In fact, it happens so frequently, my husband says I should just start writing “C. Jane Wright” on my name tag.

But I’m not complaining. In fact, I couldn’t be more grateful for how the word has spread about See Jane Write since I started this network in 2011.

Thanks to See Jane Write, I was once selected as one of the smartest women in Birmingham by the Women Fund of Greater Birmingham’s SMART Party Committee. I’ve been featured in a number of local publications. I was chosen as one of Birmingham’s Top 40 Under 40 by the Birmingham Business Journal in 2015. In 2016 Southern Living magazine included me in its list of Innovators Changing the South and I was selected as one of 30 “Women Who Shape the State” by Alabama Media Group

In October 2008, I was struck by a car while crossing a busy street in downtown Louisville. I was leaving The Courier-Journal, the newspaper for which I worked as a reporter and columnist. When my body slammed into the cool, damp asphalt on this rainy night my first thought was, “This is going to make a great column.” This story is a perfect illustration of my lifelong passion for writing.

A native of Birmingham, I returned to my hometown in 2009 to teach early American literature, which explains my crush on Edgar Allan Poe. I continued my journalism career working as a freelance writer for various local and national media outlets including Birmingham magazine, USA Today, and WBHM 90.3 FM, Birmingham’s NPR affiliate. Also I currently write a monthly column for B-Metro magazine.

I am often asked to speak at events about writing, blogging, social media, and women’s empowerment.
