The pandemic may keep me from being out and about the way I would like, but I’m still out here in these virtual streets!

There are three virtual events in my Day Designer* that I think are worth shaking off your Zoom fatigue. I’d love for you to join me.

Biz Women Mentoring Monday

Monday, February 22, 9 – 10:30 a.m.

For years I’ve wanted to attend the Birmingham Business Journal’s Biz Women Mentoring Monday, but I never could when I was still a teacher because it’s held during the school day. This year, not only will I be attending, but I was selected to be a mentor!

Mentoring Monday begins with a general session then attendees will divide into breakout rooms to meet with mentors for small group discussions. It’s like speed dating but for mentorship!

This event is one of 40 being held by Business Journals across the country. With 8,600 women who will be mentored and another 1,700 women who will serve as mentors, that’s 10,000 women from Albany to Honolulu coming together to build a community of strong businesswomen in America.

If you want to chat with me about life as a writerpreneur, here’s your chance. Register here and get to know the other amazing women who will be mentors at this event.

Author Event: Dantiel W. Moniz in conversation with Deesha Philyaw

Thursday, February 25 at 7 p.m.

Good writers read good writing, right?!

Right now I’m reading MILK BLOOD HEAT by Dantiel W. Moniz and it certainly has my muse moving! On February 25, Thank You Books, one of my favorite book stores in Birmingham, is hosting a conversation with Moniz and Deesha Philyaw, author of The Secret Lives of Church Ladies — which was my favorite read of 2020. Philyaw’s short story collection was nominated for the National Book Award and Moniz’s collection is already making news. I am TOO EXCITED about this talk! If you’d like to attend this free event, you can register here.

International Women’s Day Celebration

Monday, March 8 at 8:30 a.m.

The last in-person event I attended before the quarantine was an International Women’s Day celebration at Forge, a co-working space in Birmingham. During the event, I typed in the Notes app on my phone (which is basically my digital diary) that I wanted to be a panelist for the 2021 event. Well, guess what — I am!

I wish this year’s event could be in-person and include brunch treats, mimosas and live networking as it did last year. But I’m still honored to be a part of a panel that also features Delphine Carter of Boulo Solutions and Mindy Rohr of Bayer Properties. I’m so grateful to Forge’s Founder and CEO Kim Lee, who will lead the panel discussion, for asking me to be a part of this year’s celebration.

You can register for the event here and be sure to act fast. Forge will have goodie bags available (filled with items and coupons from female-owned local businesses) for pickup for the first 100 people who RSVP.

Hope to see you in a Zoom room soon!
