Every time you wash your face I want you to think Every time you wash your face I want you to think about your writing goals!

Just as a good skincare regimen will help you see a difference in your skin, a good writing regimen will help you see a difference in your work.

@goodmolecules recently #gifted me these products and the package included tips on how to build a skincare routine.

🧼 Step 1: Cleanse
⭐️ Step 2: Use toner (like this Niacinamide Brightening Toner)
💧 Step 3: Treat problem areas and apply serums (such as the GM Discoloration Correcting Serum
🧴 Step 4: Moisturize (I'm currently obsessed with this Silicone-Free Priming Moisturizer
☀️ Step 5: Apply sunscreen.

So what's your writing routine looking like, boo?

🎯 Step 1: Set a specific writing goal so you will have some direction.
⏰ Step 2: Determine when you do your best writing and -- with that in mind -- schedule when you will work on your writing goal each day.
💻 Step 3: Show up for yourself and DO THE WORK!
✍🏾 Step 4: Even if you get stuck on your WIP, keep writing. Try journaling prompts or Morning Pages (3 pages of freewriting) or just making lists of ideas or captivating words.
📚 Step 5: Read, read, read so you will stay inspired.

Thank you, Good Molecules, for the gifts and for the inspiration.

This Coconut Passion Fruit Spritz from @drinksurel This Coconut Passion Fruit Spritz from @drinksurely will be my +1 at all summer parties for the rest of the season. Made from de-alcoholized California rose’ wine, fruit juices and coconut water — this drink is unbelievably refreshing and perfect for anyone who wants to cut back on drinking this summer but doesn’t want to cut back on fun.

I'm going to help you with all of this and more on Tuesday, August 2 at 7 p.m. CT during my goal-setting workshop for Spark Writing Festival.

Am I saying you should NEVER write for free? Not Am I saying you should NEVER write for free?

Not necessarily. I’ve written for free in the past to support causes I care about or to help out a friend. And if you’re just starting out, you may write for free to get your first few writing samples.

But you should NOT write for free on a long-term basis and if a publication is claiming it’s big enough to offer you “exposure,” it should be big enough to offer you a check.
