currently-october

Reading: I’m always reading about five books at once. One I just recently started is I’m Judging You: The Do-Better Manual by Luvvie Ajayi . As you would expect from Awesomely Luvvie, the is laugh-out-loud funny and “a guide to getting some act-right online and in real life.” In the book introduction Luvvie writes, “This book is what Millennial Iyanla Vanzant would give you before you get to the point where you have to sit on her couch for fixing. Luvvie will be speaking at the Blogalicious conference next month in Atlanta which I’ll be attending, with a hard copy of her book and a fresh Sharpie in tow.

Watching: Y’all, I’ve been watching waaay too much TV (which is probably why I can’t finish of the books I start). I finished Luke Cage in a weekend, but all of my favorite prime time shows have returned — Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, The Flash, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Arrow. I’m also loving Queen Sugar on OWN. I’m hooked on Westworld on HBO and I can’t get enough of Issa Rae’s Insecure. If you loved Rae’s web series Awkward Black Girl, you’ll definitely like this, too. So go watch it because I need someone to chat with about it.

a-seat-at-the-table

Listening: I’m still rocking Solange’s new release A Seat at the Table. When this album, jumped to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, Solange and Beyonce became the first sisters to have both scored No. 1 albums. A Seat at the Table stays in heavy rotation because I love the album’s black pride vibe, especially on tracks like “Don’t Touch My Hair” and “F.U.B.U.” And, y’all, Master P is preaching to me with his interludes, reminding me that it’s going to take having that Avon lady kind of hustle game for me to reach my dreams.

When I’m not listening to A Seat at the Table, I’m listening to my spirit animal Banks’ new release The Altar, with the tracks like “F*ck With Myself” and “Weaker Girl” on repeat.

Wearing: I’ve been all about that vamp life lately rocking my Poe lipstick by Kat Von D and Wicked nail color by Essie. It is October, after all.

Obsessing over: I’m obsessing over growing my business, but aren’t I always? Things are lining up in a way that November is about to be lit, as the youths say, and I’m spending these last two weeks of October trying to get ready: “Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you,” Joshua 3:5.
