3cs of blogging

On Tuesday, June 28 I’ll be the guest speaker at the Alabama Women in Business Luncheon to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Club, 1 Robert S. Smith Drive in Birmingham.

I’ll be speaking about how to use blogging and social media to boost your brand or business.

If you are a small business owner or aspiring entrepreneur, I’d love to see you there. Tickets are only $30 and can be purchased here. (If you are a member of ALWIB admission is free.)

During my talk, I’m going to cover what I call the three Cs of blogging: clarity, content, and community.

Clarity. Whether you’re blogging to grow a business or build a personal brand as a writer, you must be clear on your blog’s purpose. You need a mission statement and a vision statement for your blog. (And, no, they’re not the same thing.) In my talk I’m going to walk attendees through creating both.

Content. To maintain a successful blog, you must determine the kind of content you will produce, when you will produce it, and how often you will publish. During my talk I will help attendees nail down a niche or theme for their blog and develop an editorial calendar.

Community. That old saying “If you build it, they will come” may work for baseball, but not for blogging. If you want to people to read your blog, you must promote it! And remember, each time you promote your blog, you’re indirectly promoting your brand or business, too. The key to successfully promoting your blog is knowing who your ideal reader/customer is and where she hangs out. Also, building a sense of community around your blog and brand is a great way to promote both. During my talk, I will share my secrets to building community, which I believe is my superhero power!

I hope to see you Tuesday. Remember, you can get tickets here. The ticket price goes up after June 24.

Now I need to go figure out what I’m going to wear…
